“Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here”

What can mankind create in our brightest future?

RINGWORLDS

A Ringworld is a gigantic artificial ring encircling a sunlike star. It rotates to provide artificial gravity 99.2% as strong as Earth’s from centrifugal force.

The Ringworld has a habitable, flat inner surface (equivalent in area to approximately three million Earths), a breathable atmosphere and a temperature optimal for humans.

The concept was invented by an American science fiction writer Larry Niven in 1970 in his book “Ringworld”

DYSON SPHERES

A Dyson Sphere is a hypothetical megastructure that encompasses a star and captures a large percentage of its solar power output.

The concept was explored by the physicist Freeman Dyson in his 1960 paper “Search for Artificial Stellar Sources of Infrared Radiation”. Dyson speculated that such structures would be the logical consequence of the escalating energy needs of a technological civilization and would be a necessity for its long-term survival.

“A solid shell would be physically unstable. So instead of a sphere we might find a cloud of objects. A Dyson swarm.

No matter their design, they would generate an enormous amount of infrared waste heat. And they could also eclipse or block out the star’s light entirely”

Mass drive

A Mass Driver is a proposed method of non-rocket spacelaunch which would use a linear motor to accelerate and catapult payloads up to high speeds.

Existing mass drivers use coils of wire energized by electricity to make electromagnets. Sequential firing of a row of electromagnets accelerates the payload along a path. After leaving the path, the payload continues to move due to momentum.

“No future is guaranteed.
But to despair for our future is to ignore our history and our exceptionalism.

Optimism is not only justified,
It’s a weapon to fight for a higher future.”
